Fee, indecision on quota hit Eamcet counselling
Hyderabad : The indecisiveness of the state government regarding fixing the fees and management quota seats in professional colleges is having a negative impact on the Eamcet counselling for admissions into engineering and medical courses. Officials of the higher education department have so far failed to devise Eamcet counselling schedules due to lack of clarity on fees and management quota seats. They say that due to this Eamcet counselling is likely to be delayed by over a month. Officials say that the government will take a decision on the issue only after the by-elections in Telangana region which will conclude by July 30 as any decision on a fee hike might have an adverse impact on the ruling party?s prospects. The Admissions and Fee Regulatory Committee (AFRC), which fixes the fee structure for professional courses, has also been awaiting the government?s decision on increasing management quota seats for nearly two months. Unless the seat sharing ratio between the government and college managements is finalised, AFRC cannot arrive at a decision on fixing the fees for professional courses. It has been more than three months since the government initiated the process to finalise fees and management quota seats in professional colleges under pressure from the managements who are demanding a steep hike in fees and also in their quota of seats. Eamcet ranks are expected by July 16 but officials are not in a position to initiate the counselling process this month in the absence of a decision on fees and management quota seats. source : DC
