Don’t treat students as criminals, say parents.

Despite the US Consulate being closed on Saturday, a few worried parents of the students detained by the US Federal authorities in the Tri-Valley University immigration scam, tried in vain to contact officials for some firsthand information about their wards.

“We hope that the situation improves at the earliest and the detained students come back home,” said a
parent on condition of anonymity.

Currently, more than 500 students are in the custody of US Federal authorities.

They have been tagged with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) anklets so they can’t leave the area.
“This is inhuman on the part of the US officials, they should desist from treating students like criminals and outlaws,” said the brother of a student.

Meanwhile, a delegation of CPI under the leadership of the state secretary, Mr K.

Narayana, met the Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy. The CM assured the delegation that he would look into the issue. The CM’s Office has issued a number, 04023220603, to get in touch with the state’s NRI cell.
