Eight held for JNTU exam fraud.

HYDERABAD: Police on Tuesday arrested eight persons, including four out-sourced employees, and four engineering students for their involvement in an exam fraud. The B Tech students of second and third year with the connivance of the employees swapped their answer booklets with new ones with right answers.

According to the Task Force police, the arrested accused include Devarajula Parashuram, 24, M Narender, 24, B Bheemudu, 22, B Magilal, 25 (all JNTU employees), Shaik Manju Malki, 22, V Nagarjuna Reddy, 22, Lakkasani Sarat Chandra, 22 and B Sai Bharath, 21.

Malik, a B Tech final year student, had three backlog subjects of final year. He came in contact with Mangilal, a lift operator, and sought his help in getting answer booklets in return for money. Mangilal then informed Parashuram, Narender and Bheemudu, who were involved in binding of answer booklets. Malik and four employees formed a gang. Malik then collected the details of candidates with backlogs like hall ticket numbers, name of the student, name of the college and name of the subjects. Malik messaged the information to Mangilal on his cell phone. He forwarded the same to three other employees.

After receiving the SMS, the three collected answer booklets from the office of the additional controller of examination-III, JNTU, Kukatpally. While binding the booklets, they brought a few answer booklets out and handed them over to Mangilal for Rs 6,000 to Rs 8,000 each. Mangilal then handed them over to Malik for Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 each. Malik also supplied the same to Nagarjun, Sarat and Bharat and other B Tech students for Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000 each. After rewriting the exam at their homes, the students handed over the booklets to Malik and the booklets reached JNTU on Tuesday. On credible information, the Task Force police arrested the accused near Sri Sai Durga Boys Hostel near S R Nagar. The accused were handed over to the S R Nagar police for further action. Police seized Rs 3.45 lakhs, 17 answer booklets, eight cell phones and a two-wheeler from their possession.
