Tips for Improving Concentration During Exams

Concentration is the main key to the student’s success. As exams are approaching, students are worried about not being able to maintain their concentration. Concentrating on one subject for a prolonged period of time can be quite difficult. During this period, many students get struck by exam phobia. Here are some tips to help you in improving your concentration during exams.

Stay away from all distractions

Before starting your preparations, select an appropriate study environment which is free from all sorts of distractions.  To gain concentration, avoid studying on the bed. Sit on a chair in an erect position and begin your preparations with a fresh mood, especially, early in the morning along with a cup of coffee. As caffeine helps in boosting mental focus and concentration.

Practice, Practice, Practice

As the saying goes, “Practice makes man perfect”. Practice more diagrams from Biology textbooks, running notes, question papers, and finally conducting more self-tests. This not only makes students to gain concentration but also improves their confidence and positive attitude towards exams.

Group Study

Group study is all about sharing your ideas, discussion, solving queries with your friends and cross-checking the gained knowledge about the course. Studying in a group certainly improve a student’s success. In this session, students can gain more knowledge by sharing their tips, tricks, study materials, etc. Hence it is advisable to have a group study during exams as students learn faster when compared to learning alone.

By practicing regularly, students can increase their concentration towards the subject. Try to revise the concepts taught in class on a daily basis. In this way, students can not only learn about the present day’s topic but also grasp newer concepts very easily. This also helps to reduce the stress.

Sample and previous years question papers

Try to collect the maximum number of the previous years’ question papers and sample question papers which are easily available at many educational websites. By practicing these question papers, it helps students to gain more knowledge about the different types of questions asked, question paper pattern and also one can improve their time management skills.

Study materials and other reference books

Try to gather all the subject-oriented textbooks, NCERT books, study materials, mock test papers and other reference books. Solve all exercises available at the end of every chapter and go through all the important points, terms and glossaries. To gain more concentration towards your studies, always prefer beginning the preparations with interesting topics. In between your preparations, also try to solve as much as questions asked from Chemistry, Physics, Biology Forums, etc. as the questions available in these forums might be helpful for competitive exams like NEET, JEE, etc.
