HYDERABAD: School managements in the city have declared holiday on Tuesday in view of the bandh call given by the Telangana Joint Action Committee (T-JAC), political parties and student unions. The schools stated that they might declare a holiday even on February 23, if the law and order situation remains volatile.
Representatives of the private school managements’ association stated that the holiday decision was taken keeping in view the anxiety of the parents about the safety of their wards. Junior colleges, which are not holding practical examinations, also decided to remain closed on Tuesday.
Professional college managements too decided to declare holiday in anticipation of tension in the city.
Meanwhile, Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) officials on Monday declared that the practical examinations will be held as per schedule in all Telangana districts. “However, students who cannot make it to the examination centres on February 22 and 23 owing to the bandh will be allowed to appear for examinations on February 24. They will have to inform college principals in advance,” stated G Balaramaiah, secretary, BIE.
Meanwhile, Osmania University has yet again postponed practical examinations of its undergraduate courses which were scheduled to be held on February 22 and 23. The revised dates will be announced later.
On Monday, however, practical examinations of Intermediate students went on as per schedule. Meanwhile, with pre-final examinations of students appearing for SSC-2011 slated to begin on February 25, school managements stated that the academic schedule will not be affected much.
