With the help of a neatly labeled diagram, discuss the cardiac catheterization ?ndings of
patent ductus arteriorus. Discuss anaesthetic concerns and management plan if a 3-
year old child is scheduled for ligation of patent ductus arteriosus.
2. A 60-year old male with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is on regular treatment
with theophylline, terbutaline and corticosteroids. He is scheduled for laparoscopic
cholecystectomy. On evaluation, extensive bilateral rhonchi are found and arterial
oxygen and carbon dioxide tensions (while breathing room air) are 54 and 62 mmHg
respectively. Discuss your plan for preoperative evaluation and optimization. Discuss the
plan for anaesthetic management of this patient.

1- A 65 year old male patient with chronic renal failure is scheduled for renal
transplantation. Discuss preoperative evaluation, intraoperative and
postoperative management.
2- A 50 year old woman who is a known diabetic on oral hypoglycaemic agents for
the past 25 years presents with gangrene of the left foot. On examination, she is
disoriented with moderate dehydration. Heart rate-125/minute, arterial blood
pressure 140/90 mmHg, sodium -106 mEq/ L, potassium? 2.5 mEq/L, blood
sugar-580mg/dl, arterial blood gas analysis shows, PaOz-80 mmHg on room air,
pH? 7. 22, PaCOz- 28 mmHg. Describe your plan for preoperative preparation and
intraoperative management of this patient scheduled for emergency
debridement.
