SECTION-A
1.
Answer Briefly :

a. Discuss the origin of Toyota Production System, its progress and implications.

b. Distinguish between value added and non value added activities in a manufacturing
organization. Why non value added activities are necessary in such organizations?

c. What do you understand by visual management? Explain various visual management
techniques adopted by organizations for improving productivity.

d. How standardization can be deployed as an enabler for continuous improvement and
quality enhancement?

e. Explain the salient features and advantages of linear work cells and U turn work cells.

f. Describe the salient characteristics, sequence of events and benefits of min kaizen
implementation in organizations.

g. Differentiate between TPM and TQM. Also enumerate the benefits of TPM
implementation.

h. Explain the concept of Jidoka.

Define Lean manufacturing. Discuss the TPS house and explain various elements of TPS.

Explain and differentiate between 3M's - Muda, Muri and Mura.
4.
Discuss the significance of team building in lean manufacturing. Also, explain the types
of teams and ingredients of effective teams in lean manufacturing environment.
5.
Explain Heijunka. Explain different ways of implementing Heijunka.
6.
Define value stream mapping. Elaborate upon five step methodology of value stream
mapping.
7.
Define Poka Yoke. How do organization endeavor to obtain zero defects through poka
yokes? Justify with the help of examples.
8.
Describe the step by step TPM implementation methodology adopted by manufacturing
organizations.
9.
Elaborate upon the contributions of top management, middle and bottom management
towards achieving change through lean manufacturing.
