Answer briefly :

a) What is a prescription?

b) Mention the formula for calculating dose for a child on the basis of age.

c) What are deliquescent drugs? Give two examples.

d) What is a dusting powder?

e) What are anti-oxidants? Give two examples of water soluble antioxidants.

f) What is a mouthwash? Mention the ingredients of a mouthwash.

g) What is meant by displacement value with respect to suppositories?

h) Define a suspension and give examples of suspending agents.

i) What is meant by adjusted incompatibility?

j) What are gels?

SECTION-B

The following eye drop has to be prepared: Naphazoline HCI (0.02%), Zinc sulphate
(0.25%), P. water qs 30 ml. How much sodium chloride should be added to make the
preparation isotonic with tears. (Given 'E' value of Naphazoline HCI is 0.27 and that of
Zinc sulphate is 0.15).

Enumerate different parts of a prescription and their significance. Highlight the causes of
errors while filling a prescription.
4.
Differentiate between a flocculated and deflocculated suspension. Highlight the
parameters evaluated for determining the stability of a suspension.

Write a note on career prospects in pharmacy education.
6.
What are effervescent powders? Give examples of such materials and describe the
method of dispensing effervescent granules.
7.
Write a note on preservatives used for liquid preparations.
8.
Enumerate solubility enhancement techniques and discuss any one with example.
9.
Define gargles. Mention the ingredients in a gargle.
10. Distinguish liniments from lotions.
11. Write briefly about stability testing of emulsions.
12. Classify chemical incompatibilities with examples.
13. Discuss non melting bases with examples for pessaries.
