1. A 58 years ? old man presented with a rapidly growing swelling of the parotid gland. On
examination, there was an inability to close the left eye and to blow the cheek. The
angle of mouth was deviated to the right side. Based on your anatomical knowledge,
answer the following questions.
? Briefly mention the external features and secretomotor innervations of the parotid
gland.
? Name the structures lying within the gland and which of these is injured in this
case.
? What is the reason for the inability to close the eye and to blow the cheek.
? Briefly mention the course of the parotid duct and structures pierced by it.
