Q1 (a) Discuss the general philosophies of design of earthquake resistant structures.
(b) Explain the instrumentation and its importance in motion recording and data processing
in earthquake.
Q2 Discuss the different design criteria for earthquake resistant design. Also, contrast between
conventional design approach and the present design approach.
Q3 (a) Assume that you are the incharge of disaster management cell in your district. Discuss
the strategies which you will adopt in improving public awareness.
(b) Explain the different long term disaster preparedness measures.
Q4 a) Explain the various factors which affect the damage of structures.
b) Discuss the various indirect damages due to earthquake disaster.
Q5 Discuss the mitigation measures in respect of the following disasters :
(a) Nuclear radiation
(b) Floods and tsunamis
Q6 Give the structure of National disaster management cell in India. Explain how the
coordination with international agencies is established.
