Liquids are practically incompressible. Unlike gases but like solids, a liquid does not change much in volume when the pressure on it is changed, even when the pressures of thousands of atmospheres are involved. The kinetic theory accounts for this saying that the amount of free space between the molecules of a liquid has been reduced almost to a minimum.
