d. Differentiate between random variable and random process? A random variable has an exponential probability density function given by f(x) = ae-b|x| where a and b are constant. Find the relationship between a and b?

(b) An information source produces 8 different symbols with probability1/2, 1/4, 1/8,1/16,1/32,1/64,1/128,1/256 respectively. These symbols are encoded as 000,001,010,011,100,110 and 111 respectively.

i. What is the amount of information per symbol?

ii. What is the probability of occurrence for 0 and 1?

(a) What is Minimum Shift Keying Modulation (MSK) technique? Write down the difference between QPSK and MSK?

(b) A P-N sequence is generated by using a feedback shift register of length four. Find the generated output sequence if the initial contents of the shift register are 1000. If the chip rate is 107 chip/sec. Calculate the chip and P-N sequence duration and period of output sequence?
