NOTE : (1) Attempt all questions.

(2) All questions carry equal marks

  1. Attempt any four parts of the following: 4x5=20

    1. Explain Kepler’s law of planetary motion. How are these applied to the case of geostationary satellites?

    2. --- Content provided by FirstRanker.com ---

    3. The perigee and apogee of an elliptical satellite orbits are 2000Km. and 200Km. Determine the eccentricity, semi-major axis and semi-minor axis.

    4. The orbital period of a satellite is 6000 sec. determine the semi-major axes of the elliptical orbit.

  2. --- Content provided by‌ FirstRanker.com ---

  3. Explain any four of the following: 4x5=20

    1. Liquids vs. solid-fuel powered apogee motors.

    2. SNR?

    4. Why is the frequency re-used and still it doesn’t mangle frequency?

    5. Draw the block diagram of satellite communication system. Explain each part of them.

    6. Explain how noise figure is related with receiver in satellite?

      --- Content provided by FirstRanker.com ---

    7. Determine the average angular velocity of a geostationary satellite. The distance from the satellite to a station is 42164 km. and radius of earth is approximately 6370 km. Find Geo co’s and sub co’s for 30°NL.

  4. Answer the any two parts of the following : 2x10=20

    --- Content provided by FirstRanker.com ---

    1. What is look-angle? Explain look angles determine the distance.

    2. Explain the linkage system in satellite sub-systems power supply system.

    3. An earth station antenna steered in the direction of a geosynchronous satellite has a gain of 62dB at 20GHz. The details of each block, each block measures 0.75m by 0.75m. Earth station is located at latitude 50°N. Surface and air temperature indicate bright sky noise temperature as high as 35°K.

    4. Explain what is meant by transponder and what are its functions? What are the different type of transponders use in communication?

    5. What is inter-satellite communication?

    6. --- Content provided by FirstRanker.com ---

    7. How to design a link involving a different uplink and downlink frequency? Also, how the noise figures influence the overall link. If the ratio of Ts/Tn are particularly small in a link, how does one modify the relation 2 Ts/Tn = 1? The satellite period of satellite is 600 sds.
