1. What do you mean by building maintenance? What are the factors of economic and social
significance? (16)
2. How would you determine the causes of structural and non structural defects in a building
being appointed as maintenance engineer/ architect? (16)
3. How do the climatic conditions affect the maintenance standards in buildings? Explain
with appropriate examples from the different climatic conditions. (16)
4. Define as to what extent the specification of materials used in construction effect the
maintenance requirement in a building. (16)
5. Discuss the causes and remedial measures to maintain the problem of water seepage on
the inside face of an external wall below window sill. (16)
