A group of medical students participated in a medical camp to identify the health issues of the children in an orphanage. It was noted that the orphanage was overcrowded. During the inspection of students they have also identified some parasitological conditions spreading among those students.

A 54-year-old farmer was transferred to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital, complaining of shortness of breath, fatigue and dizziness which lasted for one month. He was undernourished and lost approximately 12 kg weight within four months previous to admission. On physical examination at admission, he was pale and ill-looking but his vital signs were stable. Laboratory results revealed overt anemia: RBC 1.66x 106/µL (normal 4.0-5.4x106/µL), Hb 3.4 g/dL, (normal 12-16 g/dL). RBCs were microcytic and hypochromic.

A 45 year old tourist from Brazil (Latin America) found yellowish white segments moving in his underwear or feces. He was also complained of lower abdominal discomfort and anal itching. Patient had the history of eating raw pork or partially cooked pork recently.
