Object - to prepare and dispense some of turpentine Liniment.

Method - measure out 4.5gm of soft soap add it into a mortar and then add 10-15 ml of water. triturate to make soapy solution measure out 33ml of turpentine oil in dry measuring glass. dissolving 2.5gm of Camphor in it. Now pour this gradually in small increments with continuous trituration in order to prepare an emulsion.

transfer the content to measuring cylinder. make volume upto some by adding more of water, transfer the contents to a dispensing bottle, cork and label it.

  • volatile oil distilled from oleo-resin terpentine
  • used externally as rubifacient, irritant and counter-irritant
  • used as an enema and as antihelminthic in tapeworm infection.

• Soft Soap - It is used as an emulsifying agent. It also has antiseptic and emollient action.
• Camphor - It is ketone obtained from cinnamonum camphora tree.
  • It has rubifacient, mild analgesic and Local anaesthetic properties.

Each drop is mixed completely. the content of mortar are triturated until cracking sound is heard.

Uses - Rheumatoid arthritis

• myalgia
• arthralgia

Contraindication - not to be applied on broken skin. eg, burn, ulcers.

Physical counterirritant - eg. Radiant heat, Galvanic electric current.

Chemical counterirritant - eg volatile oil like terpentine oil, methyl salicylate
