3. The following bearings were observed while traversing with a compass:
Line | Fore Bearing | Back Bearing |
---|---|---|
AB | S 40° E | N 42° W |
BC | S 70° E | N 70° W |
CD | N 28° E | S 26° W |
DE | N 70° W | S 72° E |
EA | S 30° W | N 27° E |
At what stations is local attraction suspected? Find the correct bearings of the lines. (7M)
4. The following consecutive readings were taken with a level and a 4 m levelling staff on continuously sloping ground at a common interval of 30 m.
0.855, 1.545, 2.335, 3.115, 3.825, 0.465, 1.705, 2.855, 3.685, 0.635, 1.475, 2.235

5. Explain the procedure for measuring horizontal angles using transit theodolite by repetition method. (7M)
6. How do you determine the height of an inaccessible object when the instrument stations are in the same vertical plane as the elevated object? (7M)
7. What are the different methods of locating details using plane table surveying? Explain them in detail. (7M)
PART C (20 Marks)
8. a) What is meant by contouring? Explain the characteristics of contours. (10M)
b) The area of a plan of an old survey plotted to a scale of 10 m to 1 cm measures 100.2 cm2. Plan has shrunk so that a line originally 10 cm long now measures 9.6 cm. Find:
