HYDERABAD: Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) officials on Monday sealed over ten private junior colleges in the city for conducting summer coaching classes.
These colleges belong to Narayana and Chaitanya group of institutions. BIE officials said, these colleges were conducting summer classes despite several warnings. In a similar exercise, BIE had sealed ten colleges belonging to the same managements even in March this year.
According to BIE officials, these colleges were training students for competitive examinations including IIT-JEE and Eamcet, apart from conducting classes for regular intermediate syllabus. “The managements were issued show-cause notices on Monday. The administrative officers were told that they will be allowed to function only after BIE secretary clears the file,” said M Ratnakar, regional inspection officer, Ranga Reddy. Over 25 private intermediate colleges were closed down in both Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts by BIE officials for conducting summer classes this summer.
Meanwhile, some parents said that while the BIE is shutting down colleges in the city and outskirts, institutions located in other districts were functioning without any trouble. “Several parents have shifted their children to non-Hyderabad centres for coaching this summer. Many parents had even taken rented houses in Vijayawada and Vizag to help their students attend such classes. But due to frequent BIE raids, students who stayed back in the city are getting affected,” said a parent. Parents opined that if the BIE wants to stop the practice of summer classes, inspections should be done in all the districts.
Meanwhile, the school education department has also started conducting raids to stop private schools from conducting summer classes.
