Rs. 1,200 cr. fee dues to be cleared before March
HYDERABAD: Faced with the compulsion of meeting two crucial commitments- releasing arrears under fee reimbursement scheme with the academic year drawing to a close and submitting a compliance report to the Supreme Court –the government has sought status position from all welfare departments.
Verification
With over Rs.2,500 crore dues (including arrears of 2009-10) to be paid towards scholarships and tuition fee to about 25 lakh post-matric students for the current year, the government is gearing up to clear from Rs.1,200 crore to Rs.1,500 crore before March 31. Among 14 lakh fresh applicants, verification of 7.7 lakh applications has been completed so far.
Sources said that this amount would meet a major chunk of the demand and the remaining sum could be released after March as the academic year of several courses runs beyond April/May.
Given the operational problems to run a massive scheme like fee-reimbursement with limited resources, the government has been striving to make it transparent through an online system in place.
“In the last two years, we have been building up a data base of all beneficiaries to ensure authenticity, pooling together resources and including as many courses as possible,” the sources added.
