Engg colleges hire agents to get students!
HYDERABAD : “The number of students who had come for engineering counselling this year was less than the total number of engineering seats. Hence the colleges have hired agents. We suspect even helpers and data operators at e-seva centres must have colluded with colleges to get students to opt for their colleges,” said M D Christopher, secretary, APSCHE. The agent also takes a token amount from the students’ parents for filling up of the online web counselling `college option form’. Over a 100 new engineering colleges that have come up in the recent past seem to be the least favourite among students, say officials.
Meanwhile, on a positive note, the officials of APSCHE said that most of the admissions in engineering colleges take place on the last day for reporting to colleges. “We expect more students to take admissions on Wednesday,” they said.
Christopher, however, added that the students taking admission in the second phase of engineering counselling which began on Tuesday should opt for as many colleges as possible for there could be vacancies even in the top most engineering colleges. “Even though a seat might not be available in web counselling currently it might fall vacant after Wednesday,” he said.
