HYDERABAD: Refusing to give any more time to AP to pay the fees of students covered under reimbursement scheme, the Supreme Court on Monday directed it to pay arrears immediately. While rejecting state’s plea to grant time till Sept, the SC directed that at least 25% of the dues be cleared by March 31, another 25% by May 31 and the balance by July 15.
The state government in its affidavit filed before the SC asserted that it had already deposited Rs 1,000 crore in the treasury for reimbursement. “This money will go into the students’ accounts within 3 to 4 days. We sought time only to ascertain details of student beneficiaries,” advocate G Nageswar Reddy said. The state’s affidavit also spoke of the appointment of 4,200 verification officers for online verification and asking college managements to furnish details of the students. “Following requests from students and colleges, we extended the time to apply online and this had led to the delay in processing and reimbursing,” the government affidavit said. The SC posted the case to March 15 for further hearing.
