JNTU, OU College given autonomy.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has awarded “autonomous status” to the Osmania University (OU) College of Engineering and the JNTU Hyderabad College of Engineering and therefore, both colleges will get a grant of `10 crore under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQUIP) scheme. The colleges will also get a grant of `20 lakh per annum for a period of six years from the UGC. A five-member team from the UGC visited both the colleges and recommended them for the autonomous status as both colleges fulfilled all the criteria necessary for autonomy. The colleges will now have the freedom to decide their curriculum and take independent decisions.
Though the colleges received funds under the TEQUIP earlier, the funds could not be utilised due to the lack of an autonomous status. However, now the funds will be directly disbursed to the principals of the respective colleges.
