HYDERABAD: Research scholars of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad will now be able to get their work examined and reviewed in international forums. The JNTU has taken an initiative according to which thesis submitted by university students will be put online for international access from this academic year. The thesis will be first checked for plagiarism and later uploaded to the web portal, “Shodhganga”.
The new project is initiated by the research and development cell of the university. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) center of the University Grants Commission, Ahmedabad and JNTU on September 3.
According to JNTU officials, the project would help students from the university to have an interaction with international scholars. The INFLIBNET is a forum where academic and scholarly work of students and faculty members of the country are shared to be later accessed by experts from outside the country. JNTU is the first technical university from the state to go for such a reform, officials said. Even dissertations of students can be uploaded on this portal. “This project is aimed at giving international exposure to students and to help them get good jobs. Even industry majors could be looking at good research work online to implement in their companies. JNTU being one of the leading technological universities there could be a lot of takers for projects from here,” said Prof K Lal Kishore, director of the research and development cell, JNTU-H.
The university has started implementing plagiarism check for their masters and PhD theses. “We run the thesis through a software that detects plagiarized content. Hence the material that gets uploaded online will be a hundred percent original,” said Kishore.
