MBBS COLLEGES FOR GIRLS AND MUSLIMS

The state will soon get two medical colleges for Muslims and one exclusively for girls, said the Governor, Mr E.S.L. Narasimhan, on Wednesday. Addressing the Republic Day parade here, the Governor announced a slew of measures. He said that 43 irrigation projects would be completed over the next two years which would provide irrigation facilities to an ayacut of 38 lakh acres. He said that under the new progressive Industrial Policy 2010-15, the government planned to attract investment of `15,000 crore and create 5 lakh jobs annually. The Governor Mr E.S.L. Narasimhan, on Wednesday broached the topic of the medical colleges while reiterating the government’s commitment to the welfare of minorities.

He disclosed that the Medical Council of India had recently approved the establishment of two medical colleges in the state exclusively for Muslims and one exclusively for girls for the first time in the country.

“Our vision for the IT sector is equally ambitious. We plan to maintain the high growth momentum and notch up software exports of `70,000 crore by the end of 2015,” the Governor said.

The Governor added that the government was committed to harnessing water resources hitherto unutilised for the benefit of the farming community.

Of the 86 major and medium irrigations conceived, 82 were in the pipeline with an estimated irrigation potential of one crore acres in addition to stabilising an ayacut of 22 lakh acres and for providing the benefit of
drinking water as well to a large number of problem prone villages and habitations, he added.

“Today, with an outlay of `58,000 crore, 12 projects have been completed, bringing the benefit of irrigation to over 26 lakh acres,” he said.

The Governor also made special mention to the ongoing Rachchabanda programme to elicit feedback on government schemes and welfare programmes, tone up delivery mechanisms and remove bottlenecks.

He also touched on ongoing programmes including Dr YSR Abhaya Hastam, Rajiv Arogyasri, Indiramma Housing, Mahatma Gandhi NREGS, Pavala Vaddi, Rajiv Health Mission, social security pension, `2 per kg rice, free power and Jawahar Bala Arogya Raksha among others.
