MCA WOES 367 colleges find no takers, to shut shop!
As many as 367 of the 660 MCA colleges have applied for ?closure? due to poor response from students in the current academic year 2010-11.
While some colleges have submitted representations to the department of technical education to allow them to close MCA colleges for this academic year, others have sought ?permanent closure.? Not a single seat was filled in 74 colleges in the recently-concluded Icet counselling, 292 colleges could fill only one to 10 seats.
Only 146 colleges managed to fill all seats in the convenor quota, which comprise 70 per cent of the total seats.
The department has referred the matter to the state government which is expected to take a final decision by September 23.
Students are supposed to report to the colleges where they have been allotted seats by September 23. However, the colleges where less than 10 seats were filled are not giving admissions stating that they cannot operate as it is financially not viable and are asking students to opt for other colleges.
While a total of 34,451 seats were on offer in the convenor quota during Icet counselling, only 13,104 have been filled. This is of course apart from seats in the management quota.
