No Indian university in world top 200 list!
In 2009, only two Indian institutions had made the Top 200 ? IIT Bombay was at No. 163 and IIT Delhi at No. 181.
Due to lack of research output, they have dipped in this year?s list.

In 2009, only two Indian institutions had made the Top 200 -Indian Institutes of Technology in Mumbai and New Delhi. IIT Bombay was at No. 163 and IIT Delhi at No. 181 on the list.
This year, both the institutions have dropped from the Sept. 16: Indian universities have disappeared totally from the most prestigious list of top 200 universities in the world.
The Asian countries, which are trying to challenge the domination of United States in the higher education sector, slipped in this year’s list ? they dropped from having 36 places on the Top 200 list last year to just having 27 places this year.
The Asian challenge is led by University of Hong Kong, which has 21st spot on the overall list. China has 10 universities in Top 200, including four based in Hong Kong, Japan has five, South Korea has four, Tai
list due to comparative lack of research output.
The British universities also faced a huge setback in the list as only five of them are ranked in the world’s Top 50, according to an annual league table published by the Times Higher Education magazine.
The United States eclipses all other nations in higher education ? Harvard University has topped the list again, followed by California Institute of Technology, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University and Princeton University in the Top Five list.
From the UK, Cambridge and Oxford universities are joint sixth and Imperial College London is ranked ninth in the Top 10 list. University College London is 22nd.
