June 5: Three students of Sri Chaitanya created history by featuring in the top-10 ranks in the open category at national level in the prestigious All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE-2011), the results of which were announced on Sunday. Nearly 7,950 students from Andhra Pradesh have secured best ranks in AIEEE and are expected to bag 30 per cent of the total 26,500 seats available in the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), IIITs, deemed universities and other Centre-funded institutions.
It was a “double dhamaka” for Sri Chaitanya students J. Varun, I. Prudhvi Tej and T. Bhargav Reddy, who secured 5th, 7th and 8th ranks respectively at the national level in AIEEE results. The three had also excelled in the recent IIT-JEE results by securing top-10 ranks. While Prudhvi Tej was all-India first in IIT-JEE, Bhargav Reddy was 8th and Varun 9th in the open category. Meanwhile Narayana students Jadav Shiva Kumar and Pranay Gorantla secured first ranks in the ST and OBC categories respectively, while Ramakrishna Banot and Rajeev Kumar got 2nd and 4th ranks in the ST categories. Eighteen Narayana students featured in the top 100 in the open category. Meanwhile, Delta IIT Academy student B. Vivek got 114th rank, while Sumit Kumar and Y. Rohit of the same institution got 126th and 299th ranks respectively.
Interestingly, all the toppers in the top-10 list have decided to opt for IIT-JEE and expressed their desire to join IIT-Bombay. “Despite getting 7th rank in AIEEE, I still prefer to join IIT-Mumbai to purse Electrical Engineering. Becoming an IAS officer is my ultimate goal,” said Prudhvi.
