  • AICTE DIRECTIVE 50% marks in Inter must for tech seats

The All-India Council for Technical Education has made it clear that 50 per cent marks in Intermediate are mandatory for admissions into engineering courses from the ensuing academic year (2011-12).

In response to a clarification sought by the state government over the new norm, the AICTE stated that students will have to secure an aggregate of 50 per cent in maths, physics and chemistry at 10+2 level to be eligible for admission into engineering courses from this year.

The government had sought to know whether the latest cut-off marks would be applicable for Andhra Pradesh given that it has been giving admissions into engineering colleges based on the rank secured in Eamcet.

The AICTE has decided to raise the cut-off marks from 35 per cent to 50 per cent in 10+2 for engineering admissions in the wake of deteriorating standards in engineering colleges due to large number of students with poor academic background opting for engineering courses.
