JNTU students mail bomb threats in V-C?s name
HYDERABAD: Detained students of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad (JNTUH) are suspected to have sent out email threats to Technical Education Minister MV Ramana, Andhra Pradesh Council for Higher Education chairman KC Reddy and their own vice-chancellor DN Reddy.
According to DN Reddy, unknown persons have created a fake email address on his name by using false information and have sent threatening emails to the Minister, APSCHE chairman KC Reddy and also to his original email address.
In their email, the miscreants reportedly demanded that the authorities retain about 2,500 students of JNTUH who were detained during the first semester of the academic year 2009-10 due to shortage of attendance.
The offenders allegedly threatened to bomb the State Legislative Assembly and the JNTU main building apart from poisoning the drinking water tank in the main campus. They also threatened to attack the recipients unless they take immediate action and retain students without damaging their academic year for reasons like poor attendance.
?We knew that it was an act of mischief by students. But they have been sending the same threats through email everyday that too on my name. I am lodging a complaint with the Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) to take action,? DN Reddy told reporters here on Wednesday. He lodged a complaint with the police along with the copies of emails received by him and sought action against the offenders.
Meanwhile, the email threats were issued even as the JNTUH officials were discussing the issue with the college managements. The detained students form nearly two per cent of the total number of students studying in colleges affiliated to the University. The University authorities are planning to conduct extra classes for students who were detained during the current academic year.
