  • Private college reps in Inter exam monitory bodies.

HYDERABAD: District examination committees set up as monitory bodies for the conduct of Intermediate Public Examination (IPE) are now allegedly having illegal tie ups with private junior colleges. In four districts in Telangana __ Karimanagar, Ranga Reddy, Adilabad and Mahbubnagar __ several committee members are now alleged to be representatives of private colleges.

Just one week before the commencement of IPE’s practical examinations, the committees might get dismantled for their alleged tie-up with private parties, Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) officials said.

Junior college lecturers have submitted petitions to BIE officials complaining that not only were the committees constituted arbitrarily but also junior teachers were recruited as against senior ones. Most of the teachers chosen had tie ups with private junior colleges, lecturers’ associations alleged.

While some of the lecturers selected in the DECs had earlier been rendering their teaching services in private junior colleges some are even known for their private tuitions.

Sources said that while in Ranga Reddy district examination committee, a junior lecturer was selected even when there are over 14 others who are senior to him. In Karimnagar, the seniority of 10 senior lecturers were superseded by one junior lecture who was favoured by private managements.Interestingly, there are around 15 such cases in the districts.

According to government college representatives who have taken up the matter with G Balaramaiah, secretary, Board of Intermediate Education, some of those selected do not have a clean track record of service.

DEC is responsible for the conduct of intermediate public examinations in each of the districts. It deputes chief examiners for valuation of answer scripts and even constitutes the flying and sitting squads which are in charge of checking malpractice during the examinations.

A similar instance of seniority violation in 2007 had led to an intermediate question paper leak in Ranga Reddy district.

“The board is doing the same mistake all over again and is allowing people without clean track records to conduct public examinations,” said an office bearer of the Telangana Government Junior Lecturers’ association. As the DEC is also in charge of conducting theory examinations which will be held in March, the lecturers have asked the BIE to reconstitute the committees as soon as possible.

When asked about the issue, G Balaramaiah said the matter was brought to his notice three days ago. “The seniority matter in Ranga Reddy is settled. If there are more districts with such a problem, we will reconstitute the committees. But there is no chance of any rigging or other such malpractice to take place,” said Balaramaiah.
