5,000 colleges fail to secure ‘recognition’ For Fee Reimbursement Scheme.
Only 7,000 colleges out of 12,000 have secured “recognition” from the state government so far in order to claim the fee reimbursement scheme for their students. This is a worrying situation for students in the remaining 5,000 colleges that are not yet registered.
This year, the state government has made it mandatory for all colleges to register themselves for the scheme and obtain recognition in order to claim the fee reimbursement for their students.
The government issued the notification inviting students to apply for renewal of the scheme on October 21 and gave them just one month to apply. If the colleges they are studying in do not get the required recognition, the students may lose out. The students of the 5,000 colleges that have not yet registered themselves are thus a very worried lot.
The government has made the entire payment process online from this year. While the fee reimbursement amount will be directly credited to the account of the college, the scholarship amount will be credited into the account of the student.
Colleges have to submit details such as the courses they offer, the total intake, fee structure, whether the courses are recognized by the respective universities, and have to open a bank account in a branch as stipulated by the government. Five thousand colleges have apparently not provided these details though the notification was issued in September.
College managements say the procedure is too cumbersome and hence the delay. Several copies have to be scanned, attached to the online application and uploaded, and there have been technical problems with the website, they claim.
