  • Students in a spot as two entrance tests set to clash.

Exam dates are clashing, causing anxiety to students and concern to parents. Lack of coordination among the Central Board of Secondary Education and the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, has left thousands of students appearing for both AIEEE-2011 and AFMC-2011 in the lurch.

With both the exams being held on the same day — May 1 — they face the risk of missing one. Even the timings coincide. While the AIEEE will be conducted
between 9.30 am and 12.30 pm, AFMC will be held from 9.30 am 11.30 am on the same day. Students are worried as they will be able to appear for only one exam.

Nearly 10,000 students from the state, particularly from CBSE and ICSE boards, appear for both the exams.

Normally, the CBSE conducts the AIEEE exam in the last week of April every year. This year too, it announced that the exam will be held on April 24.

However, it has postponed the exam to May 1 on account of Easter on April
    24. On the other hand, the AFMC exam is generally held on the first Sunday of May every year. With the first Sunday falling on May 1 this year, it has scheduled the exam on that day.

This clash is also giving sleepless nights to parents, who blame it on lack of coordination among the examining bodies. A student, Ms Geetha Malhotra, who applied for both the exams, said, “Since the CBSE has deviated from its original schedule on the AIEEE exam, the responsibility to change the date now rests with them.”
