    JNTU-HYD : Last chance for I Year B.Tech. Exams NR (2001 batch) & RR (2002,2003 & 2004 batches) – Nov/Dec, 2010 Notification!

  • 1st year pass percentage at JNTU-H a dismal 20%

    1st year pass percentage at JNTU-H a dismal 20% !

The poor standards of engineering colleges in the state have been reflected in the “dismal results” in examinations every year.

JNTU-Hyderabad, one of the largest technological universities in the world with over 350 engineering colleges under its belt had a pass percentage of only 20 per cent in First-Year exams this year. Of the 90,000 students who took First-Year engineering exams under JNTU-Hyderabad this year, 65,000 failed.
The numbers have been steadily declining. In 2009, 29 per cent passed their First-Year exams, 35 per cent in 2008 and 44 per cent in 2007 in JNTU-affiliated colleges.

Worse still is, as many as 45 colleges in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts recorded a pass percentage of less than 10 and about 25 per cent of students who failed secured less than 10 per cent marks.

Shocked with the results, the state had constituted a high-level committee to suggest measures to improve the system.
The three-member committee comprising the commissioner of technical education, Mr Laxminarayana, JNTU-Hyderabad vicechancellor, Prof.

D.N. Reddy, and a member from TEQUIP, the World Bankfund quality improvement programme in technical institutions. The committee has already obtained data from 450 engineering colleges out of 700 so far.

It is expected to submit a report to the government on the “ground realities” by December this year and suggest measures to improve the situation.
