  • OU likely to conduct EAMCET-2012.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, which holds a record of sorts for conducting the Eamcet for the last 13 years in a row, is likely to be replaced by Osmania University this year. OU is keen to conduct Eamcet-2012 in May. The AP State Council of Higher Education will take a decision in the last week of this month. Every December, APSCHE selects the universities that will conduct the common entrance tests such as Eamcet, Ecet, Icet, Edcet, Lawcet, PGECET etc. on its behalf.

Though APSCHE has been entrusting the responsibility of conducting various CETs to different universities on a rotation basis, it has reserved Eamcet for JNTU-Hyderabad for the last 13 years. Both OU and Andhra University have been eyeing the Eamcet, but APSCHE always went with JNTU-Hyderabad. It seems to have changed its mind after the change of guard at JNTU-Hyderabad recently. The state government appointed Prof Rameshwar Rao as the new vice-chancellor in November following the retirement of Prof D.N. Reddy in August.

Relations between APSCHE and Prof Rao soured when he was ousted from his post of convenor of PGECET owing to his inept handling of it. Eamcet is the most popular of the CETs in state, attracting some three lakh students. The university that hosts it, collects around Rs 12 crore by sale of applications.
