11,400 students keep off B.Tech.

About 11,740 students who were allotted B.Tech seats in the recently concluded first phase of Eamcet counselling have not reported at their respective colleges within the specified date.

With this, the vacant seats in engineering colleges after the first phase of counselling have gone up to to 70,002 seats in the convenor quota alone.

This has come as a shock to the managements of engineering colleges, which are already reeling under large-scale vacancies.

While 1,33,521 students were allotted seats in the Eamcet counselling, only 1,21,781 students have reported at their colleges to claim admissions.

This is in addition to the 72,500 students who skipped the counselling altogether despite securing qualifying marks in Eamcet.

A total of 2,08,936 students have qualified in Eamcet engineering, but only 1,36,436 students have turned up for counselling in the first phase.

The AP State Council of Higher Education on Thursday issued notifications to conduct a second phase of counselling from September 5 to fill vacant seats. But going by the poor response for the first phase, officials and managements are apprehensive of filling the seats even in the second phase.

As per the fresh schedule, the second phase will be held from September 5 to 8. Students from Rank 1 to 1,00,000 will be called for counselling on Septe-mber 5 and 6. Students from rank 1,00,001 to the last rank will be called on September 7 and 8.

The seat allotment list will be released on September 9.

Students who are not satisfied with the colleges in which there were allotted seats in the first phase and cancelled their admissions can give fresh options on the web in the second phase apart from those who skipped the first phase of counselling.

College-wise vacancy positions will be placed on the Eamcet website by September 5 to enable students to give fresh options.
