There are many different kinds of musical instruments. They are divided into three main classes
according to the way they are played. Those that are played by blowing air into them are called wind
instruments. These are made of wood, brass and other materials. The family of wood instruments
includes the flute, the clarinet, the bassoon, the trumpet, the mouthorgan and the bagpipe. The
instruments that are played by banging or striking them are known as percussion instruments. An
example is the drum. Then there are stringed instruments which are played by plucking the strings
or by drawing a bow across the strings. Example of this is violin and the cello.
