1. SECTION-A is COMPULSORY consisting of FIFTEEN questions carrying TWO

2. SECTION-B contains FIVE questions carrying FIVE marks each and students
have to attempt any FOUR questions.
3. SECTION-C contains FOUR questions carrying TEN marks each and students

SECTION-A

a) Name the various sources of error in prescription.
b) What is proof spirit?
c) What is displacement value?
d) Name the bulk powders which are used externally. Write in briefly about dusting
powders.
e) What are mixtures? Classify different types of mixtures.
f) Differentiate between pastes and jellies.
g) Give the various reasons which cause phase inversion of emulsion.
h) What are throat paints? Why is glycerin used as a base in throat paints?
i) What are ointments? Name different ointment bases which are used for the
preparation of ointment.
j) Define the term suppositories. What are advantages and disadvantages of theobroma
oil as suppository base?
k) Differentiate between eye drops and eye lotion.

2. a) Calculate the volume of each of 90%, 60%, 30% and water are required to produce
500 ml of 50% alcohol.
b) Find the strength of 95% v/v alcohol in terms of proof spirit.
3. What are creams? Name various types of creams. Discuss in brief, about soap creams and
storage of creams.
4. Discuss in brief about the method of preparation of tablet triturates. How are these
packed and stored?
5. Define pill. Write the method of preparation of pills.
6. What are capsules? Give its advantages and disadvantages. Write briefly about hard
gelatin capsule.

7. Define incompatibility. What are different types of incompatibilities? Explain in detail
with examples.
8. Discuss the role of pharmacist in community healthcare and education.
9. Explain the term ?prescription?. Discuss the procedure which should be followed by a
pharmacist while handling the prescription for compounding and dispensing.
10. Define the term ?eye drops?. Describe in brief, the formulation of eye drops. What are the
various adjuvants used in the preparation of eye-drops?
