VILLAGE PRIMARY SCHOOL
A village primary school is the first step towards an educated next generation. It caters to
children from that particular village and includes classes from Nursery to Class 3.
Most village primary schools are government run and also have provision for serving food
to the students according to the Government Midday Meal Scheme.
The brief is to design a government primary school in a village, located in District
Hoshiarpur, Punjab, which shall cater to students in Nursery, KG, Class 1, Class 2 and
Class 3. Each class shall have one section.
The design of the school will functionally cater to the needs and requirements of the
students and staff and also reflect the vernacular vocabulary of the village.
The design must keep in mind aspects related to site planning and zoning, climatic response
of the built environment, site and building circulation, vernacular techniques, interaction of
outdoor and indoor spaces, building services and structure system.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
(additional requirements may be added if the need arises and must be specified)
1. Classrooms - 5 in number for a capacity of 20 students each (Requirements for Nursery
classroom and Class 3 classroom will vary)
2. Outdoor Play Area
3. Staff Room - 1 in number for 6 teachers
4. Room for Support Staff - for 4 persons
5. Principal?s Room
6. Administrative Office - for 4 persons

Maximum Ground Coverage - 40%
Front setback - 5 M
Rear and Side setback - 3 M
The building block shall not exceed 1 storey.
