1. Briefly describe the following in 2-3 sentences each: (2 ? 5 = 10)
a) Enlist the role and scope of Urban Design. Why is it important for an architect to
understand the urban design of an area?
b) Define grain and texture. What do you mean by coarse-grain & uniform texture?
c) Express the characteristic features of Greek Agora as important urban space.
d) What is urban Scale in urban design? Discuss.
e) What do you mean by Raw materials of urban design?

2. Describe in detail through examples how landform, climate and materials are the
important factors in determining the urban forms? (12.5)
3. What is the importance of IMAGEABILITY? Explain in detail through sketches the
importance of Paths, Edges and Districts in determining the imageability of a city.

8. Compare and contrast the urban design characteristics of Delhi with those of Chandigarh.
