1. Describe the different types of research. Clearly point out the difference between an experiment and a survey.

2. Explain and illustrate the procedure of selecting a random sample.

3. Using the method of least squares, find an equation of the form y = ax+b that fits the following data:

   Explain how you would work out the following statistical measures often used by researchers:

4. A machine puts out 16 imperfect articles, in a sample of 500. After the machine is overhauled, it puts out three imperfect articles in a batch of 100. Has the machine improved? Test at 5% level of significance.

   OR

   The theory predicts the proportion of beans, in the four groups A, B, C and D should be 9: 3 : 3: 1. In an experiment among 1600 beans, the numbers in the four groups were 882, 313, 287 and 118. Does the experimental result support the theory? Apply x² test.

5. What are the different forms in which a research work may be reported? Describe.
