AP School syllabus to be over early!

Hyderabad, Sept. 17: Educational institutions in the state are in a hurry to complete the syllabus by December 31, the deadline for the Srikrishna Committee to submit its report on the bifurcation of state, fearing that the fallout from the commission?s report will create trouble of the kind that shut down colleges for two months last year.

The corporate junior colleges have further advanced their deadline to November 15 to complete the syllabus, which normally, would be completed the following March. The fears of school and college managements that academic activities could be disrupted, is not unfounded. The Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief, Mr K. Chandrashekar Rao, has told his supporters to prepare for a ?mega battle? after December 31, if the report is not in favour of a separate state.

Most final exams are normally conducted in March and April, and if the syllabus is completed by December, students will be unaffected even if institutions have to shut down. But the shorter deadline for completing the syllabus will put a huge burden on students. Yet it is parents themselves, in many cases, who are urging colleges to complete the syllabus early.

?Nearly 1,500 professional colleges are located in and around Hyderabad and a large number of students from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions study in these colleges. Parents are requesting us to complete the syllabus by December 31 so that their children can come home and stay there till the exams are held later, in case violent incidents occur,? said Mr B. Raghavendra Rao, representative of the Andhra Pradesh Professional Colleges Association.

Corporate colleges such as Narayana and Sri Chaitanya want to complete the syllabus by November 15.

?The plan is to conduct revision of syllabus from November 15 to December 31. The students will be prepared to face the exams in March irrespective of the disturbances that may or may not occur after December 31,? said Mr J. Vijaya Krishna, a faculty member working with the Narayana Group.
