MVGR Engineering College awaits nod for deemed university status.

VIZIANAGARAM: Maharaj Vijayaram Gajapathi Raj College of Engineering celebrated its annual day on Thursday evening.

The celebrations began by garlanding the portrait of Dr. P.V.G.Raju, founder of MANSAS. While Principal of the college K.V.L. Raju presided, S. Ramesh Varma, General Manager (Ship Repairs), Hindustan Shipyard Limited, was the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said that employment opportunities for the talented among mechanical, civil and architecture engineering students were bright in shipping industry which stands distinct from other industries and asked the college management to train students in that stream. Correspondent of MANSAS educational institutions A. Raghava Rao said that a proposal was sent to accord deemed university or autonomous status for the college. Dr. K.V.L. Raju said that the college started with 16 professors and 200 students gradually developed to the present position over the past 14 years. Student representative Rishita read out the annual report.

On the occasion, the chief guest gave away gold medals and Rs. 5,000 cash to toppers of 2006-2010batch – P. Kartik Kumar, Ponnada Sneha and a few more.

Cultural shows

Later, the college students enthralled the audience with cultural activities.

Earlier, at M.R. College (Autonomous) Founder’s Day was celebrated in a befitting manner. Andhra University Vice-Chancellor, B. Satyanarayana, who was an alumnus, asked students to improve competitive skills and strive to achieve the set goal as there are plenty of opportunities in various sectors. P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, vice-chairman of MANSAS Educational Institutions, Correspondent A. Raghava Rao, Principal of the college D.R.K. Raju and others were present.

The Vice-Chancellor and Mr. Ashok gave away degrees to 433students of 2006-09 and 2007-10 batches and 19 students of Post-graduate diploma in software engineering (2008-09batch). M.R. Krishna Kodukulla, B. Sc of 2006-09 and Guntamukkala Suresh, B. Sc of 2007-10 received gold medals from the Vice-Chancellor.

Support sought

Congress candidate contesting for MLC (Graduates Constituency) from North Andhra coastal districts Yedla Adi Raju said his agenda was to solve the problems of people of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts.

Addressing a media conference on Friday, Mr. Adi Raju said he has the support of all sections of society, including employees, teachers and workers’ unions in the three districts. He said that he, if elected, would represent their problems to the government and get them solved as early as possible.
