Engineering students in Telangana might lose out on placement opportunities since colleges have been closed since September 13 due to the Sakala Janula Samme. IT majors such as Infosys, TCS, Cognizant etc. have failed to conduct campus recruitment drives in these colleges as the managements had declared holidays due to lack of transportation thanks to the RTC strike from September 18.
Meanwhile, the placement drives in colleges in the Seemandhra region are going on smoothly since August and the managements and students in the T-region fear that their prospects would be hit if there are anymore disruptions. The IT majors have, however, completed placement drives in “Tier-I” colleges in the T-region like the OU Engineering Colleges, JNTU-Hyderabad, CBIT, Vasavi, Gokaraju Rangaraju, Gitam, Srinidhi, Muffakham Jah, Narayanamma, VNR Vignan Jyothi etc. The placements for final year first semester students began in August thanks to Nasscom which advanced the placement season by four months from this year unlike earlier when it used to begin in December.
The companies were scheduled to begin placement drives in “Tier-II” colleges like KG Reddy, Aurora, St. Mary’s, TRR, Holy Mary etc. from September. However, they had to be put off as the colleges were closed. Normally, colleges train students on soft skills, communication skills, mathematical abilities etc. ahead of placement drives. While the managements haven’t been in a position to conduct any such classes till now, they have decided to conduct classes for Final Year students from Monday when the colleges re-open.
“We are requesting the T-activists to allow colleges to function at least during placement season. It is in the interests of T-students,” said Mr Krishna Reddy, chairman of KG Reddy group of colleges.
