    If an institution in AP claims that the top ranker in SSC, HSC, Intermediate, EAMCET or even IIT-JEE is trained by it, never take it for granted. Just don’t believe it outright.

    It is not that the students trained by the high profile corporate educational institutions like Narayana and Sri Chaitanya are not getting ranks. They may get ranks no doubt but these institutions are also claiming ranks that are not theirs originally. You may wonder how this could be possible.
    Yes, it is possible only in India and no where on Earth. The modus operandi of the corporate educational institutions is very simple.
    They would catch hold of a top ranker and claim that the student was trained by it. The ranker might have got the rank by his own study and hard work. Or, he might also have been trained by an insignificant educational institution. But, that doesn’t matter.
    The corporate institutions would queue up before the rankers’ houses and bargain with their parents, pay them handsome amount ranging anything from Rs.1 lakh to Rs.20 lakh for agreeing to lend their names to the institutions.
    The present market rate for such educational endorsements in AP from top rankers would vary depending on the course. Class X toppers lend their names for Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, while an Intermediate topper will get anything up to Rs.7 lakh. And the IIT-JEE toppers would get the best. The institutions are ready to shell down up to Rs.20 lakh for such endorsements. In most cases, parents of the toppers go for the most lucrative offer.
    While this year’s SSC topper P Venkata Sai has sold out his name for two educational institutions, IIT-JEE topper Prudhvi Tej has endorsed as many as six educational institutions. What is stunning is that there are some professional brokers working in this field to negotiate between the parents of rankers and the institutions. They are awarded with a commission of nearly 25 per cent.

    Sources said the corporate bodies poach on institutions like Chukka Ramaiah coaching centre and the like which do not go after publicity. The brokers catch hold of the students who stand top in mock entrance tests at such institutions and pay even advances to them after the bargaining with their parents. Now, you can understand there goes advanced
    planning into this educational business.
    Not only that, these corporate institutions get information of the results first through their network and with in minutes start bargaining with parents of rankers on the results day. This way they take credit for training the rankers, though the practical training is not given by them.

    Why do they do it? With such great claims, they attract more students and that means more money for them. Being attracted to the endorsements, you join your son or daughter in that particular institution but there is no guarantee that your ward will get even the minimum rank.

  • No more failures in new CBSE ranking.

    May 31: Kendriya Vidyalayas in the state continued their domination in the CBSE Class X results of Chennai region that were announced on Tuesday by securing a pass percentage of 99.92. In the recently-announced CBSE Class XII too, the KVs had stolen the show by recording a pass percentage of 93.5.

    However, since marks have been replaced with grades from last year, the usual euphoria associated with results was missing. There were no “toppers” and the expectations, stress and anxiety levels among students were minimal. Under the new grading system, the CBSE has introduced a nine-point scale: A1 (91-100 marks), A2 (81-90), B1 (71-80), B2 (61-70), C1 (51-60), C2 (41-50), D (33-40), E1 (21-32) and E2 (20 and below).

    Students who obtain qualifying grades — D and above in all the subjects will be awarded a qualifying certificate. CBSE has done away with the practice of declaring candidate “failed.” Those who secure E1 and E2 grades will get five chances to improve their performance to get promoted to Class XI. Unless these students improve their performance in five attempts, they will not be eligible for admission into Class XI. The Board will also award merit certificates to the candidates who obtain A1 in all the five subjects. Though the CBSE has made Class X Board exams optional from this year as part of the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation system, most students in the state opted to sit for the Boards and there were less than 100 takers for the school-conducted exams. This year, of the 41 KVs in Hyderabad region, 38 schools secured 100 per cent results and the remaining three got 99 per cent results. A total of 3,888 students had appeared for the Class X exams from KVs this year of whom 3,885 passed. This year, a total of 1,36,722 students had registered for Class X exams in the Chennai region. Of them, 89,543 had opted for Board exams and 47,269 opted for school-conducted exams.

    In AP, of the total 19,500 students who registered for Class X exams, less than 100 opted for school-conducted exams. Though CBSE has not declared the pass percentage of Chennai region, officials estimate that it would be nearly 97 per cent. The pass percentage in Andhra Pradesh is estimated at 98.5. Around 45 out of 285 students from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan School, Jubilee Hills, scored 10/10 CGPA. They include B. Aparna, S. Sushma Reddy, Tanya Gelli, Anirudh Subramanyam, Krishna Rohit, Ashlin Paul, Beena Wadhwani, S. Anusha, Nikhil Nayak, K. T. Gayatri Devi and Stuthi Sakhi. The school secured 100 per cent results.

    From Sister Nivedita School, Ameerpet, Srilekha Sengupta, K. Snigdha and Pooja scored 10/10 CGPA. The school also achieved 100 per cent results.
