CBSE rectifying flaws in evaluation system!
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has initiated steps to rectify flaws in its new “Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation” system following large-scale complaints from students and parents.
The new system was introduced from the 2009-10 academic year in Class IX with an aim to reduce stress among students. However, several students and parents complained that the CCE was in fact putting unnecessary strain on them with daily slip tests, projects, seminars, notebook corrections, emotional response in class, physical education, extracurricular activities, viva etc. Even teachers, who were initially excited about CCE, complain that the new system is ?confusing?.
The CBSE has decided to create a cadre of trainers involving parents and train teachers afresh to ensure the proper implementation of CCE in the current academic year 2010-11. In circular to all CBSE schools it stated: ?The Board has decided to create a band of ?parent advocates? who will be trained in the various
aspects associated with the implementation of CCE.
Parents of students studying in CBSE schools can apply to be members of the committee by submitting online application.? The CBSE regional officer Mr V. Nagarajan said the Board was currently in the process of reviewing the feedback it has received on CCE. ?We are trying to reach out to parents and guide them on how to help their children perform well in CCE,? he said. The board has also directed schools to minimise homework and tests for classroom assessment of students.
