Q2. (a) Discuss patent laws for herbal drugs and natural products according to Indian Patents
Act 1970. What are the various things in the field of herbal drug research that can be
patented? Also discuss important amendments made in the Act to make it TRIPS
compliant. (9)
(b) Explain the concept of TQM and ISO-900 and their importance in herbal drug
industry. (6)
Q3. Why stability testing is required for herbal drugs and products? Discuss its related
regulatory requirements, and challenges faced during stability testing of herbal drugs.(5,5,5)
Q4. Give a comparative account of various parameters required to develop a herbal drug
monograph according to WHO, BHP and API. (15)
Q5. Explain the term Bio-piracy. It has changed the scenario of patenting in the field of herbal
drugs/traditional knowledge in India. Explain with suitable case studies. What steps
Indian Government has taken to prevent Bio-piracy? (15)
Q6. Write notes on :
(a) Difference between Quality assurance and quality control in the field of herbal
drugs/products and their importance. (5)
(b) WHO guidelines in quality assessment of herbal drugs. (5)
(c) Conditions under which a patent can be revoked. (5)
